Student Internship Program

The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs (OASD(LA)) participates in a volunteer internship program for students enrolled in a college and/or university. 

 

OASD(LA) provides a unique environment for interns to develop personal and professional skills while gaining experience working in the Department of Defense (DoD). OASD(LA) liaisons between Congress and the DoD, touching on all legislative subject matters across DoD components and the Services.

 

OASD(LA) interns will work on products for senior-level DoD officials, support OASD(LA) action officers working on congressional engagements and experience the legislative process from the defense perspective.

 

Interns work with one of six teams in OASD(LA):

  • Intergovernmental Affairs
  • Policy
  • Acquisition and Sustainment (A&S)
  • Research and Engineering (R&E)
  • Personnel and Readiness (P&R)
  • Strategic Communications

Internships are unpaid volunteer opportunities. Students must be able to successfully complete a security investigation and be available to work a minimum of six weeks in the program (eight weeks preferred).
